how does the site look like now?

what do you guys think? how does the zeppelin look like now? and hey, what should i put in the sidebar to the left? i'm thinking of doing something like http://www.boltcity.com even though it might not be so original, maybe art updates in and around manila might be nice. of course, suggestions would be appreciated.

She looks like shit, but she's flying.

Yeah, I'm talking about the site. What would you expect from a dude with very little html experience? But at least she's workable now. The most important thing is that I have snippets of my stories up in the site; they're in the works section of the navbar. I'm putting them up for sale, PhP 10 a page, so if you're willing to buy copies of some of the stories, just send me an email and once I learn how to format pdf files, I'll send them over your way.

Ay caramba.

I've never been much of a fan of performance art; I don't know what this means, whether I'm old fashioned, insensitive, or maybe even, um, stupid. But I just don't.

So with that premise in mind, I pretty much had a puzzling good time at an exhibit at The Blue Room this evening. Great because of the company, puzzling because I couldn't get that nude woman wrapped in plastig bags that were full of dilis, or that girl who crawled around on the ground, not that I saw it. Heck, I don't even know what the performances were called. Although I loved the last three acts. The man who was wearing a DOG mask and writing in a book while a toy GI soldier crawled in front of him, stopping every now and then to emit gunfire from its musket was just impressive.

I'd have pictures, but I didn't think of bringing my camera. Next time, maybe. Cheers.

The answer is forty-two

I'm thinking of putting up a new feature on my site, one I'll be calling the webnovel. Yeah, it's a webcomic rip-off, but nobody ever said I was 100% original. As for what it'll contain, here's a little clue: the beginnings can be found somewhere in the back-issues of my site.

Anyway, if you can relate to, or even slightly understand, this post's odd title, then you have already been hoodwinked by what I can, in all honesty and probability, call the best existentialist-bullshit science-fiction story in the whole history of sci-fi stories. And most probably one of the most irritating as well. I've seldom come across a book or a series of books (as in this case) that left me more stunned and stupefied and dumbened than Douglas Adams' saga (if you could even call it that) about universal hijinks and debauchery, for the lack of a more fitting word. And as all books are, primarily, ideas put into our brains by outside forces, be they inanimate or otherwise, I must curse two people for this bittersweet pain in my head due to too much information about universal paradoxes and how they can contrive to make up one of the most mixed up plots of all time (Jorge and Mao, I swear, I'll get back at you one day for this).

As for those of you who can't seem to understand what I'm ranting about, try Googling for Douglas Adams. I'm sure you'd find out more than the average human brain could understand, or ever want to.

A whole universe more, in fact.

Since when did I not crap up on anything?

This Friday's the day (night?) of the Poetry Nights event over at Powerbooks. . . LIVE! in Greenbelt, people. You'll be supporting the intense crazies of the Thomasian Writers' Guild and the members of MHS (not to mention the marketing people of Powerbooks) if you happen to drop by and check out the event, so please do pass by.

And Camy Francisco and her Advertising Design class are having an advertising exhibit called Type-Ad+ over at the SM Megamall Building A 4th Floor Art Center up to the 23rd of February. Drop by and show your support, they deserve it.

Despite Levi's misplaced yet honest faith in my skills as a writer, I've probably botched up more artistic endeavors than a centipede has legs. The big secret is that I don't make much noise about it. I just go and tell myself how i could always do better and that this's just another one of those test phases I have to go through, and then I go and start another project I'm probably going to screw up all over again.

Like everything in life, it's an endless cycle of trial-by-error. Or, if you're the thrill-seeking type, a game of Russian roulette.

So my webnovel, which I plan to call Shaman by the way, is going to be another one of these but this time, it won't be a mistake kept under wraps. It'll be out in the open for people to critique and enjoy, albeit hosted in another site which I will connect to this tabulas.

The first two chapters, called Daybreak and Newsbreak, are already somewhere in this tabulas site, truth be told. You've probably read them too.

A bomb just exploded on the MetroRail as I write this.

cheers.

Yayness

Is it just me, or is Tabulas beginning to be anti-individualist?

Thanks go out to those people who passed by the Powerbooks Poetry Nights last Friday. The night was pretty imprssive, and the huge turnout - although the open-mic event could have used more willing readers, hehe - was overwhelming. It's one of those I-wish-my-wedding-was-like-that kind of events. And anyway, it's always a pleasure to hang with the UST people.

I'm debating on whether or not I should just go and buy a domain name for my webnovel. I was thinking of having it over at Keenspot like Levi's Hopscotch, but it turns out that I'd be needing a graphic item of sorts, something which I haven't had the time, nor talent, to do. I could rely on Bruce-man or Obbie, but those two guys're too busy to spend time noodling illustrations for me. So Keenspot's down.

I'm also thinking of getting Geocities to host the site for me. But then there're so many complainst against the way GeoCities and AngelFire handle their sites that I'm having second and third and fourth thoughts. If there's anybody out there who knows of local Philippine webhosting with relatively cheap prices and a great reputation / customer relations arm, let me know. :D

The last thing on my agenda (but not necessarily the last thing) is my freelance writing business. Let me know of events, lots and lots of events, that you think are newsworthy one way or another, and I'll see if i can come up with an article or two. Just warn me at least a week in advance, so I can fix my calendar to include the event.

Camy Francisco's Type-Ad+ exhibit is still up until tomorrow at SM Megamall's Building A artroom. Pass by if you can, it's really worth it. Look for my poem (albeit cut) at the book being advertised at the OrigamiDreams section. :D

And that's it. Cheerio folks

EDIT Feb 23, 11:41am

I'll explain that thing about tabulas in a later post, hee.

Almost there. . . .

Can anyone suggest a good color / idea for the window headers? And for the main window as well?

I'll be posting a featured piece of art every so often in the spot right there that says 'featured art' (yeah I got rid of the usericon and the subtitle, they bugged the bejeezus out of me) so if you feel like contributing, I'll gladly put it up for ya. :D

And you can see the calendar of events lined up below the shoutbox. They're comprised solely of Powerbooks events as of now, but once I gather enough items to put in there, you'll be sure to see them.

And that's all for now.

Remember the old Eraserheads song?

I think I've gotten the proper mixture for the site colors. I'll be using the same layout for SHAMAN but the main display window'll be black. Oh, and I might change the entire bg color to black, to blend in nicely with the pages I'll be fixing. What do you think?

As for the artwork, I'm getting a friend to do it. :D If you've ever been to Fat Michael's in the Bangkal area, check out the art on their menus; you'll see what I have in mind.

Something that's been getting my goat for the past few weeks is this little thing called commuting. One of the worst scenarios you can think of when commuting is in order is running around the multifarious avenues of the Makati business district just to get to (say) Glorietta 1, which for a person like me who still gets lost in Greenbelt, is hell. I have come to hate the monstrous veins of my hometown of Metro Manila just because of little things like how there's no getting to Mandaluyong from Makati other than a rickety boat that gets you stuck in the middle of nowhere in the Mandaluyong side of the Pasig river when there's a perfectly fine bridge connecting J.P. Rizal to Coronado, except that there aren't any buses, jeeps, or even tricycles going through the aforementioned bridge.

I'm a slave to convenience. Proof is my dislike for the separation they put up in the Buendia - Taft avenue area. I mean, why separate a perfectly good avenue like Taft? You're adding mileage to the public utility vehicles and thus increasing fare prices which will, sooner or later, kill your average pedestrian who has to go around the city with nary a hundred in his wallet. Traffic? Improve your lighting system, put your traffic people to work. They don't like working under the hot sun? Give 'em freakin umbrellas, fer cryin' out loud. I mean, dude! You're wasting our time AND our money!

And of course, there's always the fantasmagoric region of Cubao. Give me a MetroManileño/a who doesn't dread going through Araneta Center and Aurora Boulevard, or even the Cubao - Aurora area, and let me tell you, he/she deserves a medal. Even the LRT - 2 doesn't really do much; wait til you get to Katipunan and you can't even get a decent ride to, say, Visayas or even plain ole' Miriam College.

And why am I complaining about these really really simple things?

Because I want to drive.

Give me a car and a license and I'll shut my mouth. And I'll also work for world peace.
